Keynsham 2 Stur 3

On a day where the sun shone and made for a pleasant day out for fans at the AJN Stadium, the travelling fans were hoping for a comfortable day out at strugglers Keynsham Town, especially after the disappointment of a 3-3 draw at home on Tuesday.  Our hosts however didn’t seem to have read the same script, and despite plenty of pressure from the Cherries and an immense performance from the Keynsham goalkeeper, on 37 minutes the ball bounced dangerously across the away penalty area and Billy Bright was adjudged to have pulled back the home forward and a penalty awarded.  Keynsham took their chance to take their 1-0 lead.   And just six minutes later they took advantage of the Stur defence once more to head in to the break 2-0 up.

Manager Nick Squires then made three half time substitutions to try to turn the game around.  On 57 minutes this change looked to be paying off as Adam Hall beat the defence and buried his chance to start the recovery.  Just five minutes later, Buddy O’Shea stuck to level the score at 2-2. The crowd were buzzing!

Meanwhile it was the turn of Theo Crane to have an outstanding performance in the Cherries goal including a double point blank save which surely kept his side in the game.

Then on 80 minutes Adam Hall had managed to beat defenders on the left and put in a pinpoint cross to Elliot Bevis who had been left unmarked on the right.  Bevis then hit a left footed curling shot into the far side of the goal.  Goalkeeper no chance and Stur 3-2 up with 10 minutes to play.

The final 10 minutes were full of attacking football as Keynsham tried hard to get back into the game but in the end Sturminster Newton managed the game out to a finish to take the three points back to North Dorset.

Top marks to Keynsham Town who played much better than their league position suggested.  We wish them all the best for their last 10 games.

Worth a mention was Charlie Cox in his first start for the first team, but man of the match today was Adam Hall with a goal and an assist, and sponsored by South West Tyre Services.

Next up on Saturday we host Bristol Telephones at Barnetts Field.
