New stand officially opened

Stur 2 Gill 0

Thursday night football – Official opening of our new 50 seater stand – local derby – good weather – what could be better?
An official attendance of 323 people came along to watch anyway – good to see you all there.

Following the opening of the stand by the town’s Mayor, councillor Helen Lacey, out came the teams for our last home fixture of this remarkable first season in the Jewson Western League.

The Cherries were dominant for most of the first half creating quite a few chances which, but for the Gillingham defence and in particular their keeper Hugh Scott, could have seen quite a few goals in the half.  The only goal from the first half though came from Adam Hall just after 10 minutes.  The half finished 1-0.

In the second half the Cherries continued to pile on the pressure and after ten minutes of the half a shot from Ashley Clarke from the edge of the area rattled off a number of shins and ended up in the Gillingham net to give us a 2-0 lead.
The remainder of the half was a good controlled display with a lot of positives all round, but Stur couldn’t add to their tally and the match ended 2-0 to the home side.

It must be said that Gillingham Town worked hard throughout the game, and we wish them well for next season and whatever that brings.  We hope to see you again soon.

Player of the match was awarded to Adam Hall for his performance tonight.

Next up is a trip to Odd Down (Bath) on Monday for a 12.30 kick off, followed by a coach trip to champions Hallen on Saturday to finish off this season’s league fixtures.

Thanks to all for attending – great atmosphere.
