A brace for Leney
AEK Boco 0 Cherries 2
Good chances came to nothing for both sides during the first part of this match until on 18 minutes Nick Hewlett went on a very long run down the right wing and found Aaron Lane-Leney with a pinpoint cross who in turn thumped it past the Bear’s goalkeeper to open the scoring. The Cherries continued to have a good hold on the game, but the last 20 minutes or so were all about the home side who created several chances but failed to take them, either missing the target or being closed down by keeper Theo Crane and his defence. So at half time the teams went in with Stur ahead by a single goal.
The second half started much as the first had started, although after the first couple of minutes Stur, and on 49 minutes than man Aaron Lane-Leney got on the end of a crossfield ball and drilled it left footed past the keeper for his and The Cherries’ second of the afternoon.
The remainder of the half ebbed and flowed for both sides with the home side dominating, with quite a lot of decent attacking football to please the crowd, but with no end product. The usual flurry of substitutions kept the game alive but there was no change to the score despite best efforts.
A good game to watch, and we look forward to the return match in April.
Today’s man of the match was awarded to keeper Theo Crane.
