Stur 2 Almondsbury 0
Another hot afternoon at Barnett’s Field for the first visit to Sturminster Newton for newly promoted Almondsbury.
The match started well for the home side when on five minutes they were awarded a penalty. George Coleman’s penalty kick was well saved by the away keeper and repeated as the ball came back in followed by a good goal-line clearance to keep the home side out.
The Cherries continued to create chances and around 15 minutes after the penalty Ashley Clarke popped up to score the opening goal.
So the teams went in at half-time with the home side one goal ahead, but with the promise of more to come.
The spectators didn’t have long to wait after the break for Ashley Clarke again to put away his and the team’s second goal to take their advantage to 2-0. As the half wore on, Stur’s better fitness seem to take its toll and they created several chances, but remarkably no further goals were forthcoming and the match ended with a convincing 2-0 win.
Today’s man of the match was sponsored by Steve Fowles Painting & Decorating and was awarded to Ashley Clarke.
Worth mentioning a great performance too from today’s referee on her first visit to Sturminster Newton and from her two assistants, all of whom hardly put a foot wrong all afternoon. Great job folks and hope to see you here again soon.
