First Team

Cherries 5 Wells City 2

We expected a highly competitive game against Wells City

Wells were sitting second in the table, and in the first half that’s exactly what we got.  An equaliser from Laney and a goal from Bevvy put us into the lead towards half time. A penalty however allowed Wells to equalise and the teams went in at half time at 2-2.
The second half started briskly much to the enjoyment of the home crowd and just three minutes into the half Laney pounced on a loose forward pass and slotted past the Wells keeper for his second and to put the Cherries 3-2 up.   This was followed by two more goals within the next four minutes, one from Bevvy and one from Adam Hall to put Stur in a strong position at 5-2 ahead.  Heads went down and Sturminster Newton pretty much controlled most of the rest of the game, which eventually finished at 5-2, leaving the Cherries in third place, having scored 10 goals in two games, 29 in all league games with a huge goal difference.

Next up in the league we travel to Odd Down, where we fared quite well at the end of last season.

Man of the match was awarded to Elliot Bevis
