Boxing Day excess

Sturminster Newton United 8 Warminster Town 1

With honours shared last season and a Warminster win in the Les Phillips cup a few

months ago, the plan had to be right for this game, and indeed it was!

The opening goal came from Elliot Bevis on just three minutes, followed by his and the

Cherries’ second on 19 minutes. Just two minutes later a third was added by George

β€œGC” Coleman and on 32 minutes a headed goal from Aaron Lane-Leney gave Stur a 4-0

lead to take in at Half Time.

The second half started cruelly for the visitors when in the first minute of the half they

scored an own goal to take us to 5-0. Laney added another just before the hour for 6-0

and was then substituted for Sean Hart making his debut appearance for the club. It

took Sean just eight minutes to record his opening goal for 7-0. Congratulations due!

With a flurry of substitutions by the Cherries, the visitors grabbed a consolation goal on

75 minutes whilst the home players were settling in. Then on 89 minutes George β€œW”

Coleman got on the end of an Adam Hall shot to steer it past the visiting keeper to end

the match with an 8-1 victory, and a good day on the pitch, especially with many teams

around us being held to draws. Good luck to Warminster Town, we wish you all the best

for the rest of the season.

Man of the match was awarded to Aaron Lane-Leney.
